5 Daily Gut Health Boosters I Love

5 daily gut health boosters

If you are anywhere close to being an avid reader of wellness platforms, you may be familiar with the “gut health” trend. The term “gut health” is popping up everywhere, and I personally don’t believe this topic will be going away anytime soon. It’s about time our gut gets its own spotlight, as it’s the epicenter of so many of our physiological functions.

Even though you may be reading about gut health everywhere, you may still be wondering what exactly it means, why it’s so important, and how the heck to keep it healthy. Here’s my breakdown of what I do daily to ensure my gut is working in tip top shape and why I do what I do!

5 Daily Gut Health Boosters

Metabolism boosting tonic: I’m all about tonics and concoctions that give me a straight up shot of nourishment. I’m the type of gal that likes to hydrate and flush my system with liquids before I start eating solids for the day. So I start my day with either warm water + lemon + dash of honey and a dash of vinegar (widely already talked about but it’s for a reason), or if it’s chilly that day I’ll sip on bone broth or turmeric ginger tea. All three of these options support your gut by jump starting metabolism, aiding healthy digestion, and providing vital vitamins and minerals that support the lining of your gut.

Vinyasa yoga: There are so many different types of poses that help with gut detoxification and stimulation of our digestive system. Any poses that involve twisting your torso, or forward bends, help stimulate digestion and get internal heat going through your body.

Fill up on prebiotics: Prebiotics you say? Yes – these are foods that contain non-digestible fibers which help move what we consume along our digestive tract. Foods that are prebiotic rich include: honey, asparagus, onions, garlic, under ripe bananas, and oats. Foods that are prebiotic rich also nourish the probiotics we put in our system so that they can get to work, which leads me to my next point.

Take a daily probiotic supplement: This is the number one thing you can do for your gut health. I’ve talked about probiotics before and I’ll never stop! Probiotics are healthful bacteria that populate our gut to help fight off pathogens, maintain healthy digestion, keep our microbiome in tip top shape, and act as a superpower source of support for all of our guts activities (including communicating with our brain to keep us in a balanced mood)! The probiotic I’ve been taking lately is from one of my trusted partners, Bio-Kult (and I’ve also written about them before!), which has 20 years of manufacturing behind its belt and has been through extensive tests before it was even released to the market. All of their strains are fermented individually, they’re packaged in blister packs which makes them super travel friendly, and they ensure that their product is created with the utmost quality control systems in place – these are all things you want to look for when you are searching for any type of supplement. If you want to order a pack for yourself check out Bio-Kult online or read on to learn about our giveaway sponsored by Bio-Kult!

Add a bunch of cruciferous veggies to our diet: Another food group I’m absolutely obsessed about, cruciferous veggies! These include: broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and brussels sprouts to name a few. This specific group of vegetables are great because they are packed with the compound sulfur which aids digestion and allows your gut to work optimally. I usually eat this food group in the evening as it can cause bloating/gas and no one wants that in the middle of their day especially if they’re in an office or on a hot date. Not only do cruciferous veggies help your gut, but they are obviously packed with all sorts of vitamins and minerals that give a dose of numerous health boosters like cellular protection and antioxidant support.

If you’re chomping at the bait to get your zen on in a yoga class, a straw in a healthy tonic, or more specifically your hands on a probiotic supplement to boost your gut health, you’re in luck! Bio-Kult is offering up a little goodie bag to one lucky winner (18 and older and who lives in the US) and all you have to do are a few easy tasks to be entered! Full directions are within the Rafflecopter widget below – good luck!

Sort of weirdly specific, but I'd like to learn more about the use of spices to moderate the, er, effects of gassy foods like crucifers. A co-worker from India, whose family is of a traditionally vegetarian caste, tells me that they add spices like ajwain and asafoetida to foods like that and it completely eliminates after-effects. Are there spices that are available pretty easily here that would do the same?

I have a ulcerative colitis(UC) and this along with Crohn's runs in my family. I have many cousins and even my mom developed one or both. I developed in my early 20s and have suffered for many years on and off. Now, my 21 year is showing major symptoms of UC. I have gotten mine under control a lot with healthier eating and coconut pulling which I came about doing something that would help my teeth. I also added an extra Vitamin D. I would like to find out more about the Vitamin D connection and the gut for me and my family.
