I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Mine was spent relaxing with friends and taking many naps next to water listening to waves crash against the shore. Ultimate zen time.

Speaking of zen time, I have a special announcement that I am really excited to share with the Balanced Babe community. I am piloting a 5 day Caribbean retreat on the island of Bonaire Nov 30th – Dec 5th of this year! Imagine  a vacation that is intended to recenter, and rebalance your state of being before the Holidays. There will be an abundance of free time to enjoy a luxurious vacation of your dreams, daily yoga and meditation, cooking classes, and one on one consulting with me. That’s right – let’s go on a vacation together!

There are only 10 spots available so that this can be a truly intimate and self pampering vacation. I will be there to help you strategize a sustainable and customized game plan for your health, personal life or business goals leading into the new year, in between your sun bathing sessions of course. If you are serious about investing in your health and personal development for a robust 2016, and you are in need of a relaxing and tropical vacation, then email me directly and let’s chat. This retreat is going to be a BLAST!

Anyway, on to today’s post!

I LERV herbs. I just love ’em.

I use them in recipes, in teas, in my beauty routines, as tinctures and as supplements. I need to start talking more about different super herbs and their uses, and I’m going to start today! First up: Rhodiola.

Rhodiola is an herb reining from the Arctic region of Russia. It is classified as an adaptogen which is a group of fungi and plants that have amazing healing properties.

Rhodiola not only helps us physically when used as a supplement, but also mentally as it can help us manage mental/emotional stress.

I use R. Rosea Rhodiola since it has been the most used form of Rhodiola in human clinical studies. I typically only take Rhodiola supplements that are grown in the Arctic region since they develop their stress fighting properties from growing in stress induced climates.

Let’s take a look at the benefits of Rhodiola

Benefits:

  • Boosts energy naturally.
  • Kick brain fog to the curb.
  • Acts as an agent that helps the body respond to physical, and emotional stress triggers.
  • Contains healing properties for our nervous system and can help reduce cortisol levels
  • Can improve concentration over time
  • Improves physical endurance
  • Promoting healthier sleep
  • Triggers fat fighting enzymes

How to use Rhodiola

  • You can consume Rhodiola in capsule form and in some cases, those who take 50mg of Rhodiola capsules daily have reported a decrease in fatigue
  • You can blend Rhodiola powder in with your morning green juice or smoothie
  • Use Rhodiola tinctures in the morning by itself or mixed with your morning tea

So what do you think? I’m going to add some Rhodiola tincture to my afternoon tea! If you have used Rhodiola before, and what is your experience? Share with us in the comments!
