She has since then starred in shows such as The Mentalist, Nip Tuck, CSI, How I Met Your Mother, and Castle.
We are lucky enough to get Sarah’s tips for maintaining her Balanced Babe lifestyle, all of her secret beauty and fitness tips, and she is even sharing with us her new project to promote positive consciousness, the #30DaysSelfLove challenge. Let’s dive in!
Hi Balanced Babes! My name is Sarah Karges. I am originally from a small town in Nebraska and I grew up on a turkey farm. I’m a total tomboy at heart and then I moved to sunny Los Angeles at 17 to get into the entertainment industry. Immediately, I started modeling and doing commercials, then started TV hosting, where I worked on Fox Sports, Cartoon Network and MTV. I then transitioned into acting and have been working on a lot of fun stuff. I am an adventure junkie and have traveled the world. I live in Los Angeles but love to travel whenever I get the chance.
BB: Tell us how being in the acting industry has changed your life?
Being an actress has been amazing. I love to create and I love to be a total kid. Being able to play different roles all the time has been such a gift. I couldn’t imagine not doing this. I am literally living the dream.
BB: You have been in multiple TV shows including The Mentalist, CSI, How I met your Mother, and more. What we are dying to know is how you liked working alongside Bradley Cooper as his love interest in Nip Tuck.
It was awesome. He was such a pleasure to work with even if it was only for a day. I remember him wearing leopard print speedo-type underwear and stretching before our scene. He definitely made me laugh and wasn’t bad to look at either. He was super confidant and made me feel really comfortable, even though I was nervous as heck.
BB: Being in the public eye frequently, do you feel there is a stigma around what beauty is defined as in the media?
Yeah, absolutely! The media portrays us to be “perfect” and that is far from the truth. We all have bad days. We have bad hair, pimples, and cellulite. You name it. We’re not perfect. We are just like everyone else. Which I think was so important for me to show my scars and be vulnerable for everyone to see on my #30daysselflove
BB: You recently experimented with a 30 day challenge, tell us about that.
The #30DaysSelfLove challenge was something that happened a little by accident. After seeing Dr. Emoto’s rice experiment, where you say I love you to one cup of rice, I hate you to the other and nothing to the other one, for 30 days. I thought, “I have to give this a try.” So I did, except with quinoa, (so la of me) I would record the rice and the changes everyday and then it hit me I am going to say I love you to myself for 30 days and see what happens. And what happened was that it completely changed my life, for the better. You see everything starts from within us. I learned how to truly love and accept myself as is. I became happier, more confident and most importantly I learned how to truly love and accept others. I wasn’t afraid of my own light any more and learned to stand up for myself and start healing all the baggage that I have carried for years that was holding me back. I started to truly learn how to fly and that all starts from First Loving Yourself.
BB: How do you think women can benefit from this challenge?
I think both men and women will benefit from this challenge. Women will love it and really start to become stronger and confident within themselves. I believe that it will unleash the goddess in them all. With all the thigh gapping nonsense it will help women accept their bodies and their beauty how they truly are and look past all the bullshit stories the media wants to tell them as to what is perfect. It will make them have better relationships with men and women.
BB: You are a knock-out and have a wonderful glow when you speak, let’s read more about you! How do you live the Balanced Babe lifestyle?
Well first of all, thank you very much for the compliment. For me I maintain balance in my life by daily meditation in the morning, even if its just five minutes to center myself, and say my gratitude, then I do this practice that I learned from ‘The artist way” called morning pages. I write three pages right away, when I wake up, to get rid of all the unwanted, negative thoughts as well write out all the positives. I, of course do a video a day to myself even if I don’t post through #30DaysSelfLove. I eat fairly clean diet, love me some juices from this great place called Royalty Juice on Ventura. I also work out 2-3 times a week, either with my trainer Leyla, boxing or just a simple hike up Fryman Canyon. I love to dance in my living room and get out with my girlfriends.
BB: What are your secret beauty tricks when on the go?
Oooh Definitely love “tea tree oil” face pads from Trader Joes if you don’t have time to wash face. A good tinted moisturizer is “Peter Thomas Roth.” I just put that on and go. It also has SPF, which is very important because I can get dark spots on my face. Another beauty trick for the hair is that when I get out of the shower I don’t even comb it. I put it in a braid. I take it out about an hour later and I have this nice beach wave going on with the knots included. ha ha. I did this in Turks and Caicos on vacation and by day six I had serious dreadlocks. lol
BB: What is your typical meal plan for a day?
I usually wake up and have a cup of tea with almond milk and oatmeal with fruit. I like to have a simple lunch, whether it’s a salad with chicken or a sandwich and to maintain throughout the day, bag of almonds and Power Crunch bars for protein. Dinner really depends but I definitely love me some tikka masala with rice and naan bread.
BB: What are your 4 top tips for staying fit and healthy on the go?
1: Take a jog or walk daily to get your heart rate going and to feed your soul through the soles of your feet.
2: Turn on Pandora to your favorite station and sing and dance your little heart out.
3: Always keep some almonds or nuts with you if you don’t have time to eat.
4: Smile. That right there will keep you happy. And, of course, say I love you, not only to yourself but also to others. One small gesture to another person can not only change their day but yours as well.
BB: Do you have any new business ventures or projects coming up in the future you would like to share with us?
I feel like I always have something up my sleeve, I absolutely live for creating. I have a movie called “Do Over” with Jonathan Bennett coming out in the spring. I am currently in development with an action movie that I dreamt and made into a feature called Revengeance. Also, a lot of fun stuff happening with #30daysselflove including a book that will highlight many people’s journeys of self-love through the challenge, as well as a soon-to-launch app that I will be able to talk about later in the year.
