The nice thing about baking soda is that almost all of us have a box in our pantry; it doesn’t vary by brand; and the cost is very inexpensive.  It doesn’t just make baked goods rise. It also eliminates odors and can be used as a gentle scrub anywhere from your skin to the kitchen sink!   It’s very versatile and as a multi-purpose beauty aid and  a very inexpensive way to treat yourself to a little pampering.  We put together five ways to include baking soda into your routine!

Five Natural Beauty Uses for Baking Soda:

DRY SHAMPOO:  Great alternative to giving your hair a break from regular shampoo use with its harsh chemicals.  I use baking soda when I’m in a rush and just want to absorb the scalp oil.  You can also use the “no-poo method” using baking soda.

EXFOLIATE:  Mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and gently massage into the skin and then rinse clean.  The texture of baking soda makes it great as a gentle exfoliate to rid yourself of dead skin cells.  It’s mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties make it a wonderful at-home remedy for problem skin.

FOOT AND NAIL SOAK: You can soak your feet in a small tub of water by adding 5 tablespoons of baking soda.  It’s great for softening and makes it easier to remove calluses.   Try immersing your nails in a bowl of water with a tablespoon or two of baking soda for five minutes, gently scrub cuticles with nail brush and rinse to exfoliate and soften.

FRESHEN BREATH/WHITEN TEETH: You can make your own version of the store-bought baking soda toothpaste by dipping your  toothbrush with toothpaste in baking soda for extra gentle abrasion to whiten teeth   To freshen your breath during the day, you can just dip your toothbrush into baking soda and brush teeth & tongue.

HAND DEODORIZER:  After working in the kitchen with the strong odor of onion, garlic or celery,  just mix a handful of baking soda with a small amount  of water and  “wash” your hands for a few minutes and rinse.  This should rid your hands of the strong odor and soften them too.

Ok so, now we  know what we are going to be doing for spa night! What are some of your favorite at home beauty remedies?
