Why I Break Juice Cleansing Rules + a BluePrint Juice Giveaway

Don’t miss our BluePrint Juice giveaway at the end of this article!

I love juice cleansing, I do.

But I break the rules – and you should too. I do “cleanse” with juice for up to 3-4 days, but there is one major thing that I don’t do and that is consuming nothing but juice during my juice cleanses.

blueprint juice

A lot of people say when you “detox” or “cleanse” with juice that you should consuming nothing but juice. Many people can get by with this, but many also get extremely irritated, groggy, and worse, hangry. Failed juicing attempts lead to binge eating and feelings of despair because they didn’t stay on track with their cleanse.

Well I’m here to say that you can enjoy a juice cleanse all while keeping your hangry-ness at bay. This is how I do it.

Step 1: Start your morning with juice, and juice for as long as you feel comfortable.

Now this is very important. I LOVE starting my day with a green juice as it gives me a massive burst of energy and keeps my levels high until mid-day. I drink juice throughout the day as long as I feel comfortable. This means: juicing until you feel hungry

There are points during a juice cleansing day that I do feel normal hunger which is satisfied by another juice, but once I feel hungry like I should really be putting something substantial in my system, I switch to solid foods.

This is where intuitive eating comes into play. I wrote about being an intuitive eater in one of our past articles, which you can read here! Intuitive eating really helps maintain a successful juice cleansing experience.

The point: Listen to yourself and your body. If your stomach is telling you that you really need solid foods, eat solid foods. This will NOT hinder your cleansing experience as long as you are eating nutrient dense, plant-powered foods along with your juices. If you go from juicing to eating a hamburger, well, that kind of defeats the purpose of your “cleanse”.

Here’s an example:  Day 1: I have my morning juice, my mid-morning juice, a lunch juice, and an after lunch juice. By 4-5pm I’m ready for food and my body is telling me this. I make a plant-powered salad with leafy greens, seeds, vibrant veggies and maybe even some Quinoa blended within. Do you think this salad is going to sabotage the nutrients from the juice? Hell no.

Listen to your body. Eat when you want to eat. You can still enjoy a juice cleanse and feel great without going to the extreme! It is all based on your own body and lifestyle.

Two important reasons why I don’t do multiple day juice cleanses straight through:

  • Fiber: my body craves fiber when I’m juicing so I supplement my juices with fiber from veggies, fruits, and whole foods. I find that when I eat fiber later in the day this helps my system really detox the next morning (if ya know what I’m saying).
  • Sustainability: because I blend in nutrient dense solid foods with my juice cleanses I never get hangry, I never feel like I’m depriving myself of something, and I have that knowing sense that if I want to, I can eat solid foods. Because of this mental calmness and flexibility I have, I’m more likely to incorporate juice more frequently into my life vs. dreading a future intense cleanse.

So with that said, the only person that can tell you how long or for how frequent you can “cleanse” is you. If you can go a whole day with nothing but juice, then you go sister. Many of my friends do it with much success. Yet if you are like me and just can’t make it to the end of the day without feeling like complete poop, then try our tricks!

Now if you are so excited about starting a juice cleanse after reading this, I’ve got an even better message. We are giving away a 2 day juice cleanse (12 juices valued at $130-$190) compliments of BluePrint Juice!

I personally experienced a three day cleanse (with my guidelines above) and achieved great results. I chose the “foundation cleanse” which focuses on green juices with a contrast of spicy lemonade and my favorite: cashew milk.

I liked this cleanse because I was able to switch off from a not so sweet green juice to a slightly sweet lemonade and pineapple juice. This gave me great diversity to keep my taste buds satisfied instead of just tasting greens all day.

SO if you want to try your own juice cleanse compliments of BluePrint Juice then be sure to enter our giveaway and share your experience with us if you win!!

What works for me is making my schedule busy so I have other things to think about besides food!

Love this Kayley - what do you fill your schedule with? More work or activities that are leisurely? I find when I schedule more fun activities it makes me happy in one area of my life which naturally lowers my food cravings :-) Great advice!

We have never done a juice cleanse, but we water fast twice a week. I think it comes down to listening to your body and only doing what you can handle, like you said.

Water fasting sounds interesting Scott, how do you do this type of cleanse?

We started doing the 5.2 diet for weight loss and after a couple of months discovered it was easier to just not eat than limit calories drastically. We are now at our desired weight we continue for the health benefits. Basically drink a lot of water and herbal tea for two days each week- it is hard at first but it is much easier doing it as a couple than doing it alone.I am researching how to safely water fast for longer periods right now.

Scott, I definitely agree that it is a lot easier to take on any sort of detox or cleanse with a partner so that you can cheer each other on. You are lucky that you have someone to share your healthy lifestyle with :-) I will have to look into this type of cleanse!

The hardest part is shifting the focus off of the chewing motion of eating. I usually just chew a piece of sugar-free gum to get me through the first part of the cleanse, that usually takes away any hunger.

I'm a juice cleanse virgin. I am so interested though. I'd love to really feel the detox effects and see if I have more energy and crave sugar less.

I'm not sure what works best for me, because I've never done one! I've heard this is THE brand to do one with, so I'm dying to try it. I have lots of food allergies and I need good cleansing regularly.

I've done a juice cleanse about twice but it works for me when I put a lot of vegetables that are high in iron it gives me more energy

It helps to do a lot of meditation and focus on the task at hand. Also, try to stay off social media. There is a lot of temptation.
  • Kathryn Morse , Direct link to comment
My key to remaining sane while on juice cleanses is to eat raw fruits and vegetables if I ever feel the need to chomp on something!
