Beauty Uses For Calendula: Say Hello to Clear + Calm Skin

The beauty uses for Calendula are fabulous and it’s one of my favorite flowers to use in my herbal and homeopathic remedies.

Coming from the Mediterranean region, calendula has a vast historical background for its various medicinal uses. I love it, because of its beauty benefits and the pleasant smell it gives my remedies.

Benefits of calendula vary, but I like highlighting the benefits they give to the largest organ of our body, our skin! This flower may reduce inflammation in the skin, may improve and prevent acne and eczema, and may boost collagen production. Calendula also contains flavonoids that are found in vegetables and fruits, so it may give nourishment to your skin when applied topically.

Today, I want to share the uses of calendula in three forms: oil, powder, and tea. Enjoy!

Calendula Oils:

  • When blended with a massage carrier oil, it softens and soothes the skin. Great for your bedtime self massage ritual.
  • As a serum, it may reduce chapping and help eliminate flaky areas of your face. You know when you try a spot treatment that really exfoliates the area, leaving a circle of flakes around a blemish? That’s when calendula oil can come to the rescue.

Calendula Powders:

  • When mixed with a carrier oil (coconut or olive oil) or water and used topically on a wounded area of your skin (bug bite, blemish, or cut), it may prevent the formation of scarring. If I’m working from home all day. I’ll leave it on for hours and let it do its job.
  • Can be mixed with crushed, dried rolled oats, and a couple drops of olive oil to be used as a facial scrub.
  • Can be mixed with olive oil and vitamin E oil for a DIY face mask (we have our own remedy here)!

Calendula Tea:

  • When used as a hair rinse, it may bring out and brighten highlights in blonde or dark blonde hair.
  • When used as an herbal tea, it may aid in detoxification of certain organs

Disclaimer: Do not use calendula or calendula oil if your are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have allergies to marigold or ragweed plants like daisies or chrysanthemums, refrain from using calendula. Do not use sedative medications with calendula as they interact and could cause excess drowsiness.
