Fast food chains, begone!! There is one thing that I have been missing in my life, and that’s healthy on-the-go meals. I’m not talking about meal delivery services that deliver to your door, I’m talking about grab and go spots that you can pick up to take home or eat quickly during your lunch break.

So, when I discovered Snap Kitchen I knew I had to try it out, and I was pleasantly surprised. Their ingredients are fresh, they use BPA-free Tupperware, and they prioritize sustainable practices so that we can feel good all around about what we are consuming and where it is coming from.

If you are always on the go like I am, then you will love Snap Kitchen as your spot to grab food while on the run. I was gifted a couple items when I went to visit their location in Downtown Chicago and one of my favorites is definitely the Grilled Kale Hoppin’ John. It’s a nutrient dense bowl filled with: kale, black beans, Spanish rice, hummus, pumpkin seeds, sweet potato and more. I mean .. hello this is a plant-based gals type of meal!

Anyway, I was able to get knowledge and nutrition tips from one of their dietitians, Claire Siegel, and she was able to share some other great tid-bits about what’s to come with Snap Kitchen and of course, some nutrition tips you can use today!

BB: Since Snap caters to the on the go lifestyle- what type of foods should we pick up when we are headed home from the gym?

It’s all good at Snap Kitchen, so you really can’t make a bad decision when it comes to choosing something from our shelves. That being said, the ideal post-workout meal depends on the length/intensity/type of workout, but the focus is usually on replenishing fluids, protein, and carbohydrate?s?. Our Spinach & Goat Cheese Scramble, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, & Turkey Meatloaf are all well-balanced meals to refuel you after a tough workout! Don’t forget to grab a Snap water to rehydrate.

BB: What type of weekly meal plan can someone create using Snap Kitchen if they are looking to lose weight?

Soon, we will be rolling out Snap Kitchen’s Commit program in Chicago. In its fullest form, the Commit is 21 days of Snap Kitchen food (3 meals, 2 snacks per day) in either 1200, 1500, or 1800 calorie amounts. Any Snap representative, including our dietitians, can help guide a guest to the plan size that will suit his or her needs and goals. The plan is fully flexible in length, number of meals, and a variety of eating styles/allergies/medical needs. We’re very excited to bring this program to our Chicago guests!

BB: What type of nutrient dense foods do you recommend to help satisfy cravings, and can they be found in Snap?

It’s difficult to pinpoint the origin of a food craving, since there are so many hormonal, physiological, environmental, and even social cues associated with food. Something we do really well at Snap Kitchen is take dishes you already know and love, and tweak ingredients or cooking methods to make the dish good for you, as well. Chicken & Green Chile “Enchiladas” and Silken Chocolate Mousse that are actually good for you? Totally crave-worthy!
