The Best Hormone Friendly Shampoo and Conditioner

Ever since I started my hormone healing journey, I have been making changes to every part of my life. From diet, how I exercise, stress management, nourishing my nervous system, and especially being conscious of the toxic load of my environment. I have been swapping out standard beauty and home products for more hormone friendly ones by choosing products that do not have endocrine disruptors.

Believe it or not, the beauty products that we use can make a big impact on our internal health. Since our skin is the largest organ of our body, everything we put on: makeup, skincare, haircare and bodycare, can impact how our internal systems work. Especially our hormones.

What are hormone friendly beauty products?

Did you know that the beauty products you use either support or burden your hormonal balance? If you are on a hormone balancing journey, it is imperative that you select beauty products that do not have ingredients and chemicals that can contribute to a hormone imbalance.

A lot of drugstore and mainstream beauty products are filled with ingredients that can seriously mess with your hormones. Your endocrine system can be affected by what you eat, how you live your lifestyle, and the toxins within your environment (including beauty products). The toxins or pollutants that are in some beauty products can trick your hormones into behaving in a different way than they are naturally supposed to.

This means that we could experience artificially increased levels of certain hormones like estrogen, inhibit proper hormone breakdown, and cause a whole slew of other issues, especially if you are currently trying to heal a hormone imbalance.

So when it comes to finding beauty products that are hormone friendly, you want to start by finding products that do not have parabens and phthalates, try to opt for brands that do not use plastic packaging, and avoid products that have “fragrance” listed as one of their ingredients.

A great go-to haircare line that is hormone friendly, Vegamour:

Majority of drugstore hair care products have high amounts of chemicals that act as endocrine disruptors, and our scalp definitely absorbs the ingredients from shampoos, conditioners and topical treatments. When I came across Vegamour, I was impressed that their entire line of products are hormone free and clinically tested. The Vegamour ENSO 01 shampoo and conditioner for fine hair line are sulfate-free and color safe (good for us blondies!).

What I was also happy to learn about Vegamour was:

  • vegan / plant-based formulations with no harmful chemicals or ingredients
  • cruelty-free (no testing on animals)
  • formulas that are rooted in science-backed hair care
  • a TON of third party validation from lots of happy consumers

First I must tell you that I am hands down a scent gal. I love, and I mean love good smelling products. The scent of the shampoo and conditioner reminds me of Hawaiian or some sort of tropical botanicals. It is actually acombination of natural Jasmine, Ylang Ylang and Yuzu. Even better is that the scent lingers throughout the day (a lot of shampoo / conditioner duos don’t do that).

My personal results

After a few weeks of using both the Vegamour ENSO 01 shampoo and conditioner, I’ve noticed right away that my hair was looking fuller. Since I have fine straight hair (but a lot of it) shampoo can easily weigh my hair down and make it look extremely flat. I’m not sure how, but the Vegamour shampoo brings life to my roots and gives my hair a lift without me having to back comb or use any type of volumizing product afterwards.

My hair is also quite finicky with conditioner as well. Thick conditioners can weigh it down and make it appear flat and thin, while too thin of a formulation will cause my hair to become very tangly (as if I didn’t use conditioner at all). Somehow, I feel like goldilocks because the Vegamour ENSO 01 conditioner is juuuust right. It nourishes my strands and makes them extremely smooth and easy to brush through, but does NOT weigh my hair down at all. I used to use Moroccan oil over my strands after every wash to give it some extra moisture and now I literally do not need to any other product.

In fact, the only hair care products I use are the Vegamour ENSO 01 shampoo and conditioner, nothing else. I will use a clean dry shampoo if I need to skip a wash but that is it. No hair spray, no volumizing spray, no hair oils, nothing. I will note that I also rarely blow dry or use heating tools on my hair. And by rarely I mean maybe once every 4 months. Because my hair is naturally stick straight, I just let it air dry and do its thing every morning, so I am fortunate to not have to use any styling products.

I do like to keep my hair care routine as simple as I can, just as I do with my skincare routine. The less products I use, the better the condition of my skin and hair. And when I focus on quality products that are vegan, clean, and have no endocrine disruptors, I am supporting my hormone balancing journey. It’s a double win for me.

A final word on Vegamour

Vegamour is definitely a line of products I will be continuing to use. Not only do they have high quality shampoo / conditioners, they also have a best selling GRO Hair Serum for thinning hair. What I love the most is their transparency about keeping hormone-disrupting ingredients and sulfates out of their products. THIS is what creates loyal customers!
