Living a healthy and balanced life isn’t just about your diet and exercise regimen. It should also incorporate a healthy living environment. One main obstacle to a healthy home is electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation, which is emitted from every electronic device. The World Health Organization considers EMF radiation a possible carcinogen, and many people are being diagnosed with electrosensitivity. But what does it actually mean for your health and what can you do? And how can we find ways to protect from EMF emissions?
EMF is a form of energy that travels in waves directed outward from its source, much like a stone creating ripples in a pond. This energy is a by-product of some devices (like laptops and tablets) but other devices function only because of the radiation (WiFi and cell phones). These man-made EMFs are an outside influence that negatively affect the normal functions that keep our bodies healthy, and are known as immune system suppressors. When your immune system is suppressed, it decreases your body’s ability to fight infection, leaving you more susceptible to bacteria, viruses and a decreased ability to fight diseases. The direct effects of EMF are even more concerning.
Time and time again, medical researchers have found that EMF has a negative impact on health, and there is concern from many doctors and health experts about the long-term damage from exposure to EMF. This exposure can affect your everyday health with symptoms such as headaches and sleep disturbance, as well as more serious, long-term effects such as cancer, brain tumors, or Alzheimer’s disease.
This all sounds a little daunting. You may be asking yourself, “If EMF radiation is a by-product of my everyday electronic devices, is it hopeless? Is there anything I can do to protect myself”? Fortunately, there are some simple things you can do to limit your exposure and provide EMF protection.
5 Ways To Protect From EMF Emissions
1: Ground yourself. Harmful EMF can travel all over the body. Scary right?! So you think to yourself, what can we do about this? Science has actually shown that energetic grounding can occur when we have contact on natural surfaces. Of course nature has our backs. Through Earth connections, we become more alkaline. In an ever changing world that is becoming more and more technologically advanced we are losing that connection with our roots, Mother Earth. We have to remind ourselves that until the last couple hundred of years, humans walked barefoot and were outdoors most of the day; very opposite of our lifestyle today. We work in offices where buildings and concrete have taken the place of trees and fields, losing that connection with our grounding sources. If you work in an office, make an effort to have natural plants indoors, in your home too! Try to spend a portion of your lunch breaks outside. When you’re at home, head back to your childhood antics and walk around barefoot… bet you’ll notice a connection and a more grounding feeling! 2. Turn off WiFi. While not using your WiFi (especially during the night while asleep), simply turn it off, just as you would your TV. For even better EMF protection, eliminate WiFi in your home and use a wired internet connection instead.
3. Keep your cell phone away from your head. When talking on your cell phone, use the speaker or a low-emission headset. A low-emission headset is any kind of earphones that plug directly into your phone. Do not use Bluetooth or wireless headsets, as these also emit EMF radiation.
4: Keep your sleeping space EMF free: One of those things we all need is sleep, and good sleep to be our best. When we have EMF in our homes (and let’s face it, who doesn’t nowadays) it disrupts our sleep. EMF pollution affects melatonin production at night. What is melatonin you ask? Melatonin is a natural hormone made by a pea sized gland located just above the middle of the brain. During the day the pineal gland is inactive, but when the sun goes down and darkness occurs, the pineal is “turned on” and begins to actively produce melatonin, which is then released into the blood. One of the best ways to help this issue is to have your bedroom completely free of EMF pollution. In addition to turning off all wireless devices in your home, remove and unplug all electrical devices from your bedroom. A battery-powered alarm clock is the best option, however, if you have to use your iPhone as an alarm clock be sure to keep it on “airplane” mode. You could even turn off the circuit breaker to your sleeping area. This will cut off the flow of (dirty) electricity through your bedroom walls at night. Try it – you might have the best sleep in years!
5. Do not use your laptop close to your body without a shield. When placed on your lap, the dangerous EMF radiation is transmitted directly into your body. Placing a proper physical shield as a barrier between you and the laptop can provide EMF protection. The HARApad is a laptop radiation shield that is specifically designed to safeguard you, much in the same way a lead vest protects you from X-rays. There are many other EMF protection devices on the market that offer further protection. Keep an eye out for the products that put an actual shield between your electronic device and your body, as these ones are the most effective. For example, cell phone radiation is best-shielded by a barrier between your head and cell phone. A shield on the back side of your cell phone is far less effective. Also avoid the smaller products such as stickers or pendants that claim full-body protection from EMF. HARApad is the most experienced supplier of effective EMF protection devices and is also willing to provide free EMF consultations.
By incorporating these simple steps, you can not only achieve EMF protection and reduce your risk of the effects of EMF radiation, but also further your goal of living a healthy and balanced life.
