Essential oils are often forgotten about when it comes to our health. In fact, most people would probably say that they don’t even think twice about using essential oils. However, these oils can be used for natural beauty remedies that have many health benefits for us!

So, what even are essential oils? To clarify, essential oils are made from essences found in plants in nature. These essences are extracted from plants in natural ways. The emphasis here is on “natural.” Any oils that are made from chemical processes are NOT considered true essential oils. Each oil has a different composition that makes it what it is, how it smells, and how it affects the body. Essential oils are most commonly used as the basic materials for aromatherapy.

There are many different essential oils that each have their own benefits to our health. Some oils you have probably already heard of include: tea tree, peppermint, lavender, chamomile, and eucalyptus. Let’s talk about each one of these in closer look and why they can be a wonderful addition to your daily routine:

Tea tree oil is mainly used for its’ strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It has a great healing power that is used to treat wounds/skin issues, while also working against bacterial conditions. Tea tree can be used for acne, dry cuticles, congestion issues, cold sores and even skin sores. Try using this essential oil for your next skin issue or even for fighting odors!


Peppermint is one of the oldest herbs in history used for medicinal purposes. This minty fragrance is used for many health concerns including: mental fatigue and exhaustion, nausea, digestive issues, muscle aches, or even headaches. Peppermint has a calming effect on the body due to its fragrance, which is why it relieves tension. It is also especially known for its’ ability to waken the senses – it improves mental focus while also boosting energy. Try this one in the morning if you need a boost.


Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh lavender? This essential oil has many benefits for your body including: reducing anxiety and stress, improving sleep and relaxation, and slowing down aging with antioxidants. Traditionally, lavender has been used to treat neurological issues such as migraines, anxiety, and stress. This powerful oil can improve your relaxation techniques tremendously, allowing you to keep calm and getting a good night’s rest.


Chamomile is most commonly known for its’ strong effects of promoting relaxation. This oil can reduce anxiety and has a natural effect of calming nerves. Most importantly, for those of you who can’t sleep, try chamomile oil to treat insomnia. This essential oil nurtures your mind and promotes true relaxation. Definitely recommended before bed!

Probably one of the most amazing essential oils, this powerful medicinal tool can be used to treat a lot of our health concerns. Because of it’s unique and relaxing scent, eucalyptus can be used as an air cleanser, odor remover, to clean sinuses and cure allergies, and even assist with respiratory problems. This essential oil is therefore pretty much used for the fresh, cleansing properties it tends to have. Try using it everyday to increase respiratory circulation and triggering immunity!

While we only talked about five essential oils today, there are many other essential oils to try out! Incorporating these natural oils into your everyday routine could have many positive effects on your health and mood.
