On your next self-pampering day, why don’t you try a tomato face pack to help with balancing and brightening your skin, ridding yourself of excess oil, repairing sun damage, and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles!  Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants such as lycopene, contain vitamins A and C, and have natural astringent properties.  Studies have continually shown the heart health and skin benefits of adding tomatoes to your diet, but today we’re writing about using tomatoes as topical face packs.  Try these instead of your usual face mask and see if you notice results!

Straight-Up Tomato Astringent

This tomato face pack acts as a natural astringent, the tomato gets into the skin pores, removing excess oil and gently tightening the skin and helping with acne and blemishes. You might just notice a difference!

Cut a small tomato in two and apply one half to your face, taking care to gently massage it into the skin and let it set. This mask calls for no other additive, so for those with sensitive skin you might feel a slight tingling after a few minutes.  Try leaving on for up to 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water. I love using an ice cold tomato right from the fridge…it’s really a morning wake-up!  For especially oily areas known as the t-zone, re-apply 2 – 3 times.  Use this as often as you would use astringent.

Smooth n Glow Skin Pack

This tomato face pack is perfect to get that smooth and glowing skin. Simply scoop the inside of one large tomato, crush and mix with 1 tbsp. of organic honey and enough greek yogurt to make a thick paste.  (One tbsp. of tomato paste can also be used when fresh tomatoes are not available.)  Apply thickly and leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse repeatedly with warm water.

Honey’s mild alpha hydroxy acid and the hydrating enzymes in yogurt both contribute to brightening, hydrating and evening out skin tone.

Exfoliating Tomato Face Pack

This is a great one for removing dead skin cells from the skin surface and giving your skin an overall glow. The acidic nature of tomatoes contributes to exfoliation without the use of chemicals!

Mix 1 tbsp. of plain tomato paste with 2 tbsps. of sea salt or sugar.  Mix well and gently massage into skin for a few minutes.  If it’s too abrasive then cut back on the salt/sugar. Rinse well with warm water.   Another option is to use one mashed tomato instead of paste.

I tried fresh tomato as an astringent and it was great! It tightened my skin and dried up the oily areas. I reapplied it 4 times in less than an hour. It's easy to do while you're getting other stuff done. I'm going to make it a habit every weekend.
