+ Why movement therapy?
“The body always leads us home . . . if we can simply learn to trust sensation and stay with it long enough for it to reveal appropriate action, movement, insight, or feeling.” Pat Ogden
Being aware of your body promotes congruency – what you say, think, feel and experience become unified. Through somatic focus and movement, you gain access to groundedness, body boundaries, body images, and capacities. Feelings are more easily uncovered through the body and as they are expressed and allowed, this decreases somatic symptoms. The felt experience of one’s body boundaries brings clarity to the assertion of what one wants and doesn’t. When body images are uncovered, the accompanying self concepts are re-structured. Attending to the body, expands the awareness of one’s physicality, creating inner support, confidence and presence.
